Chewing can help calm, reduce anxiety and de-stress. It can help increase focus and attention. It can help regulate one’s sensory system.

Chewing necklaces can be helpful to promote calmness and focused self-regulation in individuals wiht autism, ADHD, oral sensory processing disorders, special needs or anyone needing oral stimulation.

Moreover, Sensory Fabric chewing necklaces provide a safe alternative to chewing on hands, pens, clothing or hard objects.

I make these sensory fabric chewing necklaces, here in Lusk, in Ireland. I use cotton fabric on the outside, with an extra internal layer of cotton toweling fabric, which provides extra absorbency.

The sensory fabric chewing necklaces are washable and durable. I make each one of them with great care and attention to detail: from the choice of fabric, the designs to the quick release velcro fastenings, which I individually cut with round corners to be as comfortable as possible.

The chewies are a result of the request of a mum who couldn’t source fabric necklaces in Ireland. Firstly, I did a bit of research to see what is available on the market. Secondly, I created some prototypes and most importantly, after getting valuable feedback from Eoin’s mum, I came up with the design of the current chewies. As a result, chewies are now available in Ireland too :-)

Care Tips

Whilst the fabrics that I use are of very good quality and durable, please note that more aggressive chewing may lead to faster wear and need for replacement of the sensory fabric chewing necklaces. You can wash the chewies at 40°C.  Although cotton fabric would also withstand temperatures up to 60°C, regularly washing at higher temperatures may lead to faster deterioration of the necklace, particularly of the velcro fastening.
